I just recently posted a question about acting and how to get started. Well this morning i found an ad in the paper about movie extras. I was just wondering if you have to try out, what you do and the details. If you have been a movie extra before or no about it, please tell me what its like. thanks so much!

Being an extra usually involves showing up on clothing that should be appropriate depending on what the ad says. Sometimes when you call they want you to bring a couple outfits. They will be looking for someone they can put in a scene as background. You need to be able to ignore the cameras and action and do what they tell you to do over and over and over as they try different shots. Shooting does take hours - though you are paid for it. A friend was grabbed off the street to be an extra in a movie set in the 1970's about 10 years ago - it was the big hint he needed that his look was dated! He was in the background in two scenes. At some point you will need an agent just to make the arrangements easier for the production or casting company - they prefer agents to standardize the hiring process, just like using a real estate agent to buy a house!

I haven't been an extra but it sounds like fun and a learning experience. Go for it! I believe you don't have to try out for extras, it depends if the movie casters like in you what they are looking for. I have read for a play and one time had an interview with a producer for a TV show. The interview was strange and nothing in what I expected. I was just observed of how I communicated with the people in the room, especially children, but I was not told. Keep you intuition and your best foot forward for the challenges at the spare of the moment.
One way to learn acting is through joining a theater group in your city or town. Also, if you are still in school join you school drama club or go to college to study drama.
GOOD LUCK!
GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!

You dont really try out for extra work, you just show up and see if they like your look that's it. You do have to pay for a photo when you register with Central Casting in NY, LA or Chicago, but that's ok, they are the top extra casting agency.

that's how maximum actors initiate out. Hugh Laurie (the celebrity of residing house) became an added on acquaintances, and a number of of actors from the celebrity Trek series began out as extras. i know that those are examples of television actors, yet maximum of them have been in movies as properly.

I was a extra a couple times, it was okay- very easy, didnt get paid very much only 60.00 for the day that was in the 80's though. I didnt have to try out, only if they need you to say something do you try out. My bf got me the job, he was Tom Cruise's stand in for Risky Business, so I don't know how you get the jobs. So long as they don't ask you for money - go for it. People should never ask YOU for money. They should be paying YOU!!!!

And always take someone with you (over 21) to any auditions. Good luck!
