Kathryn is an old family name, Katherine is just the "traditional" spelling. We plan on calling her Kate or Katie.

I personally prefer Kathryn Grace, but that may have something to do with the fact that I'd prefer that spelling for my own future daughter (if I were to name her Kathryn, that is). Also, Katherine just seems far too common in my opinion.
