Can someone just all of a sudden "lose it". Has someone you've known just "lost the plot"

There could be reasons in their life that make them lose it!? I have no idea but have you ever been around someone that's done that.

Schizophrenia has been known to do that to people. John Hyde in Albuquerque, NM is a good example.
