There's going to be a change for fares for buses...there will be no more transfers; you'll have to pay $2 for every bus ride, and trains are more than that, depending on how many stops you travel. Day passes will be $5. Here is some information about the current rates. http://www.sdmts.com/fares.asp#ptt

If you are going to be without a car and dependent on public transit you'll probably buy a monthly pass which currently goes for $64, more for passes which include special routes, less for senior, disabled and students. Again, see the link above.

Taxis are not used very frequently here compared to other cities. A seven mile trip will run you around $20.

Honestly, most people here drive.

Without a car, you really won't go very far unless you have a lot of time. Buses take long time because they stop like every few hundred feet and costs $2.00 per trip, although you can get a monthly pass. Trains are not designed for short distances, although in downtown San Diego, they have trolleys. Taxies, well, unless you have been drinking that night or coming home from the airport, forget it. Even a short trip will cost you around $15-$20.

One nice thing about SD is that there are a lot of bicyclists, at least compared to LA. There are a lot of bike paths so maybe that could be your other option.

San Diego has the best bus and trolley system in the U.S. You can get a bus/trolley pass for about $60.00 per month. or about $1.75 per trip, depends on how much you ride
