i have a winning idea for an already established franchise restaurant that they'd probably love to implement. If I send them the idea, though, will i reap any benefits? Or will they make tons of profit off of MY idea and i won't see a cent?

You may also have an idea that might qualify for a business method patent (in the U.S., at least). I recommend you consider talking with a patent agent or patent attorney (you can find one at www.uspto.gov) and explore filing a patent application.

Find an executive at the company who is responsible for sales or planning. Tell him you have a great idea. Ask him to sign a non-disclosure statement and/or confidentiality agreement. Ask an attorney to draw this up for you. Have him sign it. Then tell him your idea in a meeting. Ask for a percentage of the profits.
