Which one do you believe and why?
Statement One:
"To be happy with yourself is to be loved by another."

Statement Two:
"You must be happy with yourself and love yourself before you can truly know, love, and be happy with another."

I like Statement Two. I think it's true. If you are plagued by self-doubt and a low sense of self-worth, you'll harm every relationship you're in. You'll start wondering, do I deserve this person's love/friendship/etc.? Why would they give me this love if I'm unworthy? Is there a catch? Are they using me? Do they just pity me? Or are they too stupid to notice how worthless and awful I am? If you don't trust someone in ANY relationship, they catch on pretty quickly, and without trust, relationships are nothing. To use a personal example, I used to have really low self-esteem. Whenever someone I didn't know approached me and was friendly to me, I didn't know what to do or say. I felt like an idiot, so if I saw them again, I figured that either they were just being nice to me, or they had realized what an idiot I was and didn't want to talk to me again. If they came over again, I was nice again, but flustered and uncertain. But I could never make the first move, and eventually people tired of that, or figured that _I_ didn't like _them_, since I never came and talked to them on my own accord. Now, I am much more self-confidant, and easy with who I am, and I have more friends than I have ever had before.

Both are true.

Statement Two is easier to understand though. If you are not content with yourself or hate yourself, how should you expect to love others if you cannot love yourself?

Statement One is also true. If you are content with yourself, chances are that someone else also likes you for who you are.

i must say i believe statement two much more.

we all believe that we need another to make us feel fufilled and happy, when the reality is that how do we know what happiness truly is unless we experience it firsthand within ourlseves?

learning to accept ourselves for who we are is the basis for learning to love another.
