I'm driving down to Dover and getting a ferry to Calais next week for a day trip. Never done it before. Anything I need to know? Got my passport and ticket - what else do I need? I'm not bothered about stocking up on booze, is there anything else worth looking out for?

your need headlight adaptors and a GB Sticker,
dont buy this at Dover or on the ferry too expensive, cheaper if you buy them at Halfords or somewhere like that.
as for driving in France, its easy, i love driving in France, more relaxed than driving over here.
just watch yourself at Roundabouts the french dont know waht there indicaters are for!

i was there last Saturday, French railway workers on strike, causing a few problems outside the station, But Loads of police around

finally have a good day, if your going on a saturday, try the small market in Place de Armies in the town centre

In France it is worth to visit one of the big supermarkets, even if you do not stock up on booze, as they have all kind of canned food you will not find at home.

Or stop in one of the 'high-streets' in France and get the real stuff from the small local shops.

Get a real lunch and dinner, cheaper and better than in England (my English friends say.)

Most towns on the French coast are worth visiting, next to Calais you find Boulogne, my parents have been there and liked it a lot, but any town you head for is likely to be worth visiting.

might be worth just checking the weather forecast the day before so you know if it's going to be a really rough crossing or not. And if you are taking any children that aren't your own you would need a letter of consent from their parent or guardian.
