One minute they were ok and the next they wouldnt work. I have tried all the usual settings and made sure that theyre not muted.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

hi there
first do the basic checks(this has happened to me,even after many years of p.c experience)..check the power lead from the speakers(if active),check the fuse hasent blown
check the main audio in lead has not fallen out,and check the speaker leads for any damage or splits
well done on checking the sound and multimedia settings in control panel, this is the correct method when your sound has dissapeared
however also try the audio devices main interface, for example in the case of a realtek ac97 audio device, although the sound can be changed in the control panel it can also be changed in the sound effect control panel,to get to this click the icon in your taskbar, other onboard audio devices should have a icon in the taskbar(such as n force and c media)
also if you are using a dedicated pci soundcard then check the card has not slipped out of place
any problems let me know
good luck mate !
