In NSW we have the Sunrise and WA has the Sunset .
I like Coogee Beach at Sunset plus there are great cafe's and a pub across from the Beach, Palm Beach,Dee Why. Curl Curl or Avalon Beaches are the nearest beaches to Hornsby.

The sun sets in the west, and the beaches in Sydney are to the east, so you will not get a sunset over the ocean.

Places like Palm Beach will give you sunsets over a bay looking toward a national park, so can be pretty good. West Head would also work but the road is closed at sunset. You could get the same sort of effect by driving or catching a train to Brooklyn and getting the sunset over the Hawkesbury. Brooklyn is not far from Hornsby.

Of course, places like Bradleys Head or North Head will give you a sunset over Sydney HHarbour, with the city skyline and the Bridge.

My favourite place to watch the sunset in NSW is Point Danger Capatain Cooks Memorial at Tweed Heads.
