Yes, this is one folklore for seeing a new moon:

Upon seeing the new moon, bow to her and turn over the coins in your pocket. This will bring you luck in all your affairs.

You do not turn it, you show it to the moon. The moon should be new, very new, and you should notice it yourself, and tell no one, and show bank notes. It means that you will have money all the next moon (month). The more you show (the larger the nomination), the more you will have
Show all the time. When I notice it, that is. Ah, and you are not supposed to check in moon calendars - it does not work. Only if you notice by yourself. But you can look out of the window every evening, that's fine.

I've never turned my money over on purpose but....My kids ask me all the time if the moon is following us and I always tell them, Yes...it's because they are special and the moon wants to meet them. They like the thought of that. My oldest said that he wanted to be an astronaut so that he could make the moon happy.
