My daughter is 4 1/2 months old. I fed her around midnight last night and she ate perfectly fine. She didn't have a fever or anything. I woke up around 7 today and when I changed her I noticed she was very hot so I took her temp and it was 102.3. I called the Dr because I thought it was pretty high. Well, I tried feeding her and she refused to eat. She has drank about 2 oz so far today and it is 10:45. He said if it got worse he would see her today. So if her temp doesn't go down by 11:30 I will call again. But I am just curious if anyone has experienced this before. Has anyone ever experienced a high temp, non vomiting, non eating, cranky baby before? If you have what was wrong? I know she is teething but I don't think her temp would be this high.

conim200...-Yes it is recal. I already subtracted 1 degree so her temp is 102 not 101.

I was ALWAYS told that if the baby's temperature is higher than 100.4 you are to consider it an emergency (this is what I was told by the hospital and my ped). I can't believe the ped doesn't want to see her with that high of a temp. I would make an appointment anyways so he can check her out to be on the safe side. No worries, I'm sure she's fine, but also, don't give her any fever reducing medicine until you've confirmed the real reason for the fever.

If you aren't check her feve every hour if it went up check every half hour sometimes fevers spike and get dangerously high, go to a clinic if she gets a higher fever.

Babies do get cranky when cutting teeth but giving them something soft to chew on like the previous answerer suggested is a good idea. You can sponge bathe your baby to help keep the fever down but do seek medical advice, and I would look for another doctor, I find his answer as non chalante and he shouldn't wait until the baby gets worst, also check your baby for rashes it could be measles or chicken pox she is developing which starts with fever, watch the baby closely, you are doing the right thing by monitoring her intake of food. Did you offer her some sterilized water? She needs it if she is running a fever and might take it more readily because babies dehydrate fast make sure to offer her this. You can ask your doctor but my little guy got sick and he was throwing up and when I brought him in he was dehydrated, I was a young mother then and have since learned how important it is to monitor and check how many times she goes number 1 that is also important. I hope you will see improvement in your baby soon.. Trust your instincts that is your baby you know her more than anyone.

like everyone has said teething temps are never that high she has a fever for other reasons i would if you have not already try to bring the temp down by giving her some Tylenol and a luke warm bath. call the doctor again or request that you do come in. and always if it goes any higher or does not come down after a few hrs i would call the er and ask them.

Now I could be wrong, but it sounds like you might have blown a head gasket(which would explain the excessive amount of white exhaust),and is a known problem on Ford taurus/Mercury Sable/Ford Windstar family. No power steering, well that's because of the loss in engine power. One thing to check would be either a radiator hose, like a majority of contributor's have stated, or a heater hose assembly, which is sometimes made of hose and metal piping going from the engine to the heater core. Pull the dipstick, and check the oil.If it is a milky color, you will need some top-end work(Poss. cylinder heads and gaskets). If the oil is it's normal dark color, then very well it is a damaged hose.Good Luck.

Teething can cause a slight fever, but it shouldn't last too long. Make sure to make the fever doesn't go past 105. A fever that high can be a tell tale sign that something else is wrong. If all else fails, call your doctor again or go to the ER if the fever gets too high. That is what they are there for.

Hmm.. same thing happened to my little sister, she's 5 months old now, thing with her was that she was teething and she didn't like the bottle. I think that it could just be teething, every baby is different so she just might be a little more sensitive. I wouldn't worry about it, my mom was very paranoid about it when it happened though and she called the doctor every 5 minutes, literally, but since you'll be calling her soon you shouldn't worry too much. If it really bothers you you could give her some fever medicine, we did that too, I think we gave her Children's Motrin, but out doctor told us too so ask your doctor if it's ok. Good luck.

That temperature is too high for teething.
Call the doctor back and see what they think. In the meanwhile give infant tylenol and snuggles. If it creeps up again, a tepid bath to cool her.

If it is a viral infection, there is nothing more you can do other than to wait it out. Antibiotics will do nothing to quell a viral infection.

Good luck, I hope she is feeling better really soon!

Please try not to worry, it really does sound like teething trouble to me. My daughter was the same. If she isnt taking the milk, just try to get her to take a little (boiled) warm water. She should be fine in a while. Have you tried giving her anything like baby paracetamol?, this would help bring the temp down, also try to keep her cool, lots of people tend to wrap babies up when their off colour. If all this fails, get your doc on the phone straight away and tell him to pull his finger out! either that or the emergency room but im sure everything will be fine. Hope this helps. xx

I don't think her temp would be that high for teething although refusing to eat because of teething is not uncommon.

As for you doctor not wanting tou to take her in for a fever that high...he's nuts! Take her to an emergency room or urgent care clinic! You have got to get that fever down! Give her liquid baby Motrin or Tylenol, bathe her in a lukewarm-NOT COLD-bath...anything to get that temp down! That temp is edging on the dangerous side. MAKE her get fluids into her. Try Pedia Pops, they are like ice pops, or other Pedia drinks. It's like Gatorade for your baby and will help get some fluids and electrolytes into her. The frozen pops may be more readily accepted by her now because it will help numb her teething pain plus the cold will help lower her fever.

Please! If her temp gets ANY higher, to HECK with your lazy-I-don't-want-to-be-bothered doctor and get her to see someone else for that fever! Ask around and see who your friends take their kids to see and if they are happy with their pediatircian...then SWITCH!

Yikes! Good luck with your sweet baby....
