I am convinced they would add any undectable poison or carcinagic into the food supply that would have any positive influence on the bottomline or earnings per share. that is why food inspectors and "controls" exist at all. i am convinced giant corporate food companies can never be simply trusted. one hundred years ago they did not have huge chemical labs to creative more and more "supplements" to boost the bottomline and, earnings per share. manage must grow that bottomline or perish. let the consumer beware is their guiding compass. they lipservice is just that. bs.

Profit above all else seems to be the general opinion.
The addition of salt and sugar to tinned goods that really don't need it (or didn't until we all got used to the adjusted flavour) is just one matter that causes problems, another is wheat ( which a growing number of people are developing an intolerance to) this is used as a "carrier" for flavorings in such innocuous things as potato crisps and they don't even have to list it in the ingredients.

Caveat emptor

I agree that some food like bread and other types of grains were healthier for us 100 years ago. Now so much is processed and bleached that many of the nutrients have been taken away. Also things like steroids did not exists to be put into our meat. However something are a benefit, like the ability to make sure our meat clean of harmful bacteria, and the ability to reduce the amount of fat and sugar in foods. However i think we are seeing a resurgence in the free range, grass feed, and unprocessed foods (that I buy when ever I can). Still I do not trust the giant food companies not to meddle with that too. I hope the governing agencies will continue to monitor and even have stricter regulations on how companies treat our food.

I would be inclined to agree with you! I remember as a small child, there were no use by dates on packaged foods and canned food lasted for ages and ages. Today, everything we pick up in the supermarket has a use by date and this would certainly indicate that the product has been "contaminated" with chemicals etc., It seems to me that man has gone backwards in this respect as with his continual interference with the processing of food we can't be sure anymore just what it is we are consuming. A good question!
