Or would this qualify as indoctrination? Should peaceful methods of solving conflicts be allowed at all?

They should be taught critical thinking, to recognize idealism when they see it, and that idealism isn't necessarily good (except for the idealist). Adolph HITLER'S idealism CAUSED a war!

Dear Robert:

"Teaching~ War Alternatives"?

How about a focused effort to train
our youth in: ~
Effective Conflict Resolution!

This Planet will never, ever, be without
a WAR, Going on! It's a part of the
Broad Human Experience.

As individuals are FLAWED~
so are Nations!

As long as there is ONE Individual
who makes a choice to utilize their
FIST to "solve" some issues~
We Will Always Have NATIONS Fighting!

Our Future & Present Educational System
should focus more on Political Science
Awareness~ for all students.

Not mere Political Dogma or
"indoctrination"~ but rather straight forward
IDEAS & Principles of Historical Conflicts.
Seek out Solutions & NOT necessarily
focus on mere Problems!

We all must Learn from past mistakes.
NOT repeat all the proven FAILED Efforts.

Economic JUSTICE is a CORE Issue
to many Nations. It is the Genesis &
the "Seed" to many problems & Conflicts.

The gap between the "haves" & the
"have-nots" must be addressed for
true long-term solutions!

In many cases, an effective &
comprehensive educational program
can solve many problems.

Higher Education Is The Key To
Continued Success in Most Nations!

Political Involvement by more citizens
& awareness could ensure nations to walk an effective pathway to a brighter future.

Reason OVER BOMBS!

Unfortunately~
we will always have evil leaders~
like Hitler, on our Planet! Many times
with maniacs like this~
BOMBS & Bullets are all they understand.
This is a Bottom Line Reality!

ALL Education & Conflict Resolution~
goes right out the window!

"Good" bombs~
MUST DESTROY
these "Bad-Boyz"!

The Good Guys MUST WIN~
In The END!

Does this address your question?

Peace~

OUT!

Sometimes there is no alternative to war. Can anybody tell me that there was a diplomatic solution to the Nazi's invading all of Europe, rounding up the Jews and gassing them?

In a perfect world there would be no war and no need for a military, but we don't live in a perfect world so to borrow a line from the greatest president of the twentieth century, "Peace Through Preparedness."

Sure. When the science community is divided on an issue, but for high school and lower there's very little division in any issues they would learn.

Of course evolution is the most contraversial and divisive. However, asking for 'alternatives' in this subject is a real misconsception of what the word "THEORY" means in science.

In science theory a theory is very strong, it is not just something someone came up with to answer a question, that's a hypothesis... a theory is tested, doesn't have holes that contradict the general theory... and no other theory is as widely supported. Gravity is just a theory, meaning there could be a force different from gravity that actually responds in what we see--maybe a great pushing from empty space rather than a pulling from matter...... but right now, there's nothing that shows that to be true, so gravity is our theory.

You can teach anything you want in school, the question is if it will help. America is a pro-war country. We average a major armed conflict every 20 years. Check my link for some more info.

It already is but we don't talk to children about war a lot. We teach them peaceful ways to resolve the conflicts between themselves. Talking to them about war tends to make for bad dreams. Children now a days have to many pressures on them as it is. Let's let them be kids for a few years out of their lives.

If you look far back into history you will notice wars have always been part of human existence and nature. Without wars there are no leaders/dictators and unfortunately we will always have people like that.

Maybe we should teach our kids not to be leaders/dictators instead? That may solve the problem.

Peaceful ways of solving conflicts should be taught, but the fact that some war is unavoidable should also be taught.

There should be a class on gun safety for some of these dumb kids who manage to shoot themselves, but that's not going to happen.

I don't think its problematic if its taught that our nation has a history of trying to avoid war and we do other things to get change then simply invade a country. The problem is that requires thought and actual history records which don't fit the left wing agenda of our current teachers unions.

I would rather they learn History, Math, Science,Reading , Writing, Ect.... The politics of conflict resolution are best left to parents.

Well what will that do for them, when they grow up they will join the military and learn the art of killing, there is no such thing as alternatives to war, because when you start wars with pens it winds up with missals, maimed & dead people.
