Wow...have you ever bought into one of the biggest fibs of all time. The flaw in your statement is that there's no context. What does that mean? It means that it's only 'true' if you apply the statement to fraud on the part of some individuals. In real context there are economic reasons that transend the simplicity of your thesis. Ferinstance! Most public money goes to the crippled, the blind and the mentally disturbed. Much of this money is used for the children of such people. Some goes for the rehabilitation services. I suppose you can launch an argument against such things, but in a purely economic sense a society that did withhold this kind of welfare would be cutting its own throat. Why? Because no money ever vanishes! All cash recycles. It becomes wages, profits, investment and ultimately taxes. Without these transfer payments the economy would simply slow to a lower level of equilibrium....that is, lower wages, fewer profits, less investment and a lower tax increment. There's also the social aspect that afflicts most 3rd world countries where people live in abject poverty and degrading circumstance. I won't mention the moral aspect, but there's a case to be made for feeding the hungry, giving water to those that thirst, taking care of the sick and raising up the widow and the orphan. By the way...the 'government' 'confiscates' hard-earned income and redistributes it to able-bodied war profiteers.....if you want to be fair you might consider that!

In reality you are paying for services you receive.

Benjamin Franklin started an insurance company. The he started a fire department owned by the insurance company. When a house caught on fire the fire dept would rush to the fire. If the house had a special marker on it showing it was insured they would put out the fire. If it didn't they would sit around and roast marshmallows :-). True, except for the marshmallows.

You pay for access to public works. Roads, water, streets, police, fire, emergency medical care, garbage pick-up and so many other services that you may or may not use BUT have available.

For example, you can store your trash in your house instead of having it picked up. Your choice until your house becomes a breeding ground for rats and roaches and your neighbors burn it down.

Because the able-bodied are feeble-minded.
They believe that government knows the needs and desires of citizens better than the voters know themselves. They believe that it is a purpose of govenment to take money from the rich and give it to the poor, without realising that, in practice, the middle class will pay as usual, and giant corporations will be subsidised in return for bribes to officials.
We end up by all of us subsidising each other, minus a large chunk taken out in administation and corruption.

Not all income is "hard earned". The richest among us make their money sitting around the pool waiting for the dividend check to arrive.

Redistribution of resources is the entire point of any government.

The most common form of redistribution is taking the money from middle and lower classes and redistributing it to the corporations and their wealthy executives, such as the multi-Billion dollar contracts that went to Blackwater and Haliburton.

Are you suggesting we stop paying the President? I think he's an able bodied individual being paid with taxpayer confiscated money.

THE GREAT MISTAKE OF HAVING AN INCOME TAX. THE LIBERALS HERE LOVE TO TALK ABOUT GOOD THINGS
BUT FAIL TO MENTION ALL OF THE WELFARE RECIPIENTS THAT ARE NOTHING MORE THAN LEECHES. THEY ALSO DON'T MENTION ALL THE MONEY GIVEN TO ILLEGALS.
