so far it hasn't bothered us..we saved for retirement the last 20 years we worked, so have a substantial amt saved and invested ..gas is going to be the biggest expense..we hope to travel the East Coast next year for 4 months in our RV..providing gas is not $5.00 a gal. Our house is paid for so with SS and money we have saved we are ok..we consider ourselves very fortunate..especially after reading some other answers to this question..

That's putting it mildly. A few years before my husband retired
we already noticed we couldn't save much of anything. And
we didn't live beyond our means. Rent was continuing to go
up and so were groceries, and utlitities.
Now today, there's scraping going on at the bottom of the
barrel by the third week of each month. That's when the pot
is empty and there has to be juggling and what not to find the
money to live on. I think groceries are the biggest problem
getting in, because of their higher cost than before. So this
is when we hop around to a few places that offer food boxes.
Anyone can get them. I guess they know you wouldn't show
up, if you aren't needy. But the trouble is, there is little they can
give due to slacking of donations. It's too bad that all churches
don't pitch in and donate what they can in food each month
to a food distribution area and let the people come that need
help. And those numbers of people are ever growing it seems. And strangely enough, we don't see minorities. All
of the so called immigrants drive fairly new cars, unlike us.
I never saw that living in California years ago. But now they
do, up north anyway. So I don't look forward to the next few
years if inflation continues as it has.

Sense I live in an RV park and my rent includes elect. TV, and phone (i pay 18 cent a min. for long distance), it's only bad for me at the gas pump and the grocery store. But that is bad enough as my income is very small. Hence the RV park. I don't know how families with children get by. A box of cereal is over 4 dollars! Milk is 3. Good cuts of meat are beyond my range.

Living in the nightmare years. I thought I could live on SS in Mexico, wrong so wrong. Even with a small rental income, at the end of the month there's nothing left. Very uncomfortable, worry all the time that there will be some broken pipe, leaky roof, etc. Its hell to be old.

Yes, I live alone, so with the inflation, it has been real hard for me. I set myself up on a strict budget a couple of years ago, but with the rising cost of fuel, food, etc, I have found that what I have budgeted isn't enough. So, of course, that means dipping into my savings.I am still working, so I hope that somehow the economy recovers. But, I am one of the lucky ones that will also have a retirement check from my place of employment besides my social security check.

My biggest concern is the price of fuel for my car. It is now at an all time high of $3.65 per gallon for diesel. This cost is a major cause of the price of foods, etc. that are trucked into the state. I have cut down on using my car. I have sympathy for those who have to use heating oil for the winter in those colder states.

ABSOLUTELY! - it is very hard for me to save what with rising costs in utility costs and food and gas. It takes all I have [soc. sec and income] to just survive!

I RARELY buy clothes; travel on a small annuity I get once a year; and the rest of the year I just bite my lip, try to grin and bear it and pray!

This is a sad reality. And the Bankers should be herded into a sheep shed and let the people rule.

Depends on comfort zone -- my finances are proving to be interesting, refuse to let it get in the way of comfort and pleasure though.
