As a buddhist I try to distance myself from ego and am always thinking what is logical and what is rational. I don't do this to brag about intelligence or to say that I seek truth to be better than the next person. I believe seeking or looking for answers is a way to remove my ego for my ego is made up of layer upon layer of falsehood. My ego will lie to me at any given chance just to protect me from the truth which is that without ego, I am nothing. To be nothing in this society is not a desirable thing but it is the truth. Everyone of us is insignificant if we look into the hole that is existence. We realise that our identity or ego is about as important as a flake of dust on a piece of dust.

So no, I feel that the ego never seeks. It is the spirit which observes all things honestly. The ego is blind, proud and ignorant. That is why great art is from the soul and not based on ego. Because art is the picture which the soul sees.

Hope this makes sense. I find it hard to explain theories of non-ego because I do still have a little bit left of mine and it tries to sabotage things.

Great point made by your question!!

Of course ego mainly influences through creating wants or longings... however, it can also make one give rather than seek, but there is a catch... this ego driven giving merely hides the inner reality of seeking name or fame or simply trying to seal the Heaven for the afterlife!! I would put it this way that any and every seeking we do is driven by our ego one way or another!!

On many levels, yes, but I think that there is altruism outside of personal ego which also
seeks, but for answers that will benefit all of mankind. In
this way you could say that it would satisfy some kind of
mass "ego" that represents every "self" but not necessarily
effect one's individual life directly.

No, because the ego is your defensive identity and conditioned thought system. It is only capable of backing away from what it has learned to fear. Even its compensatory attachments - that it compulsively chases - are NOT authentic seeking.
