It is produced from Silk Worms cocoons. It takes hundreds of them to make a small piece of silk. They are only found in certain countries and live off Mulberry leaves. The thread is so fine that you can get 10 threads through the eye of a needle.

Yes. It's made from the cocoon spun by the silk moth which feeds only on mulberry leaves. You don't want to know how they get the silk off the cocoons.
There's a very easy test for finding out if something is animal, vegetable or mineral. Scorch them, animal products will give off an ammonia smell. Try it with the hairs taken from your hairbrush or your nail clippings.
If you scorch cotton or linen, which come from plants, you won't get that smell.

No.It is made from the spun cacoon of the silk moth.The cacoon is dropped into boiling water and then the "silk" can be easily unwound.
