I am not being offensive but i am defending folk who may confuse the words. myself included.To me one is being offensive by offending someone . It is not offensive to be offended. It is by choice. This could be construed as a very controversial question and hopefully can baffle many of us. No offense meant. If that made sense i`ll eat Buks hat ( again)

Dude, they mean pretty much the same thing. Here let me show you...
1) I couldn't say anything without offending him.
2) Everything I said to him was offensive.

offending and offfensive can hav the same meaning.
