For those of you who have studied or know, does math require huge amounts of effort? Regardless of how smart you are you need to put loads of work into that subject and keep up with it don't you? If you don't have any effort, then you'll go down right?

If you are talking about math as a college major -- then YES!

In order to succeed at any one level, you need to have mastered earlier material. You can do well in a modern British Literature class without having taken a Shakespeare class. But you can't do well in Algebraic Topology without having mastered both Point-Set Topology and Group Theory.

I found that learning mathematics was not hard as long as I kept up with it. But it does take a massive effort.

On the other hand, if you are talking about taking a single math class as a Freshman that doesn't involve Calculus -- many people could skate through it without doing any work at all.

LOOK, YOU ARE ASKING SOMETHING WITHOUT MAKING IT CLEAR WHETHER YOU LIKE MATH AS A SUBJECT OR NOT.
I LOVE MATHEMATICS......AND, I ALWAYS FOUND THIS AS THE ONLY SUBJECT WHERE EFFORT NEEDED IS LEAST-------IT MAY BE BECAUSE I LOVE MATH.
IF YOU ARE ONE WHO FINDS IT "ALWAYS DIFFICULT".......EVEN THEN I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO TAKE UP THIS AS A SUBJECT.IT GIVES IMMENSE CONFIDENCE IN DEALING WITH OTHER SUBJECTS.
I DON'T KNOW ANY STUDY PROGRAM WHERE MATH IS IRRELEVANT.PUT IN LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT ......TO BRIDGE UP THE GAP OF CERTAIN BASIC KNOWLEDGE, WHICH YOU MIGHT HAVE NEGLECTED IN THE PAST.IF NEED BE, READ BOOKS OF LOWER GRADE TO UNDERSTAND THE HIGHER AND TOUGHER TOPICS OF MATH.
BEST OF LUCK
GOD BLESS
