So I want to make my own greeting cards this year for the holidays, but I don't have a scanner. I already drew the picture, (and yes, I like to think of myself as somewhat of an artist) and I'm thinking of going to Kinko's or Staples to make color copies on cardstock. I'm wondering if this would work, or if it's better to have it uploaded onto the computer first? Is it an expensive or time-consuming process?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone~

I make my color copies on cardstock at the the library. In ohio it costs 1 dollar per copy, but it does not take long at all. It will still be cheaper than buying cards for everyone, and it will be more meaningful since you made them!!

Everyone I know that make cards do not use a computer, so no you do not have to scan it first, unless you would like to make changes and type everything up on it instead of writing on it yourself, or you could always type it up on the computer and paste the message onto the inside of the card.....Good luck, making cards is alwasy fun!!!

I think that you should upload it on your computer (how would you without a scanner though?) you could use a friends scanner and email it to yourself just to be safe. And then you should make some copies on card stock. It might not be too too expensive. It will turn out well if you really are a good artist. A couple of my moms friends make their own greeting cards and they are very beautiful once they get them printed. Good Luck! ♥

Seeing as you spent the time drawing the image (and you're therefore saving money already), I would just go to Kinko's and have it color copied. Even if it's a dollar each, it'll be worth the assurance that the copies will be clear. If you scan it and start printing the cards out yourself, and this of course depends on what kind of printer you have, you might run into problems with the ink being low, leaving marks, or even running out (if you're printing a lot of them out).

You could scan it at Kinko's and email it to yourself. Or for a different look, you could photograph the card if you have a digital camera and get it into your computer that way. Use a tripod, and put the card on the floor. I do it all the time with documents. Experiment with different settings to get just the right picture.

Color copies are expensive. $1 each where I live. Kinko's have computers to use. Maybe you could scan it there and save it to a disc and use it any way or any time you want. Good luck. I love homemade cards.
