More often than not it is because the truth hurts, but telling lies creates more hurt, so I always tell the truth! :) xx

I would ask the truth about what and according to whom? Lets face it, what one person sees the "the truth" isn't necessarily going to be universally agreed upon is it?
If five people were eye witness to a crime, then all five were asked to give an accurate account of what they had seen. You would get five different accounts. There might be a few things they ALL included and agreed upon. But more likely than not, they wouldn't all agree with each other. ALL would insist what they had written or said was "the truth"... but it would only be the truth according to what they say, noticed and paid attention to.
The truth is often given as a matter of fact, when a lot of the time, it isn't, its more a matter of opinion and is prone to subversion.
Anyway, who are you going to let decide what is "the truth" and what isn't?

The truth hurts. Although people may sit there and say they would rather know the truth than a lie, they wouldn't.
For example: if you only had 2 months to live, would you rather know and worry about it or would you rather not know and live as normal and not stress out?
Or: If you were leaving your partner, would you tell them that youve been seeing someone else for the past 6 months and hurt them unnecessarily or tell let them think that you had just drifted apart? Which would be better for you partner?
There are alsorts of scenarios where the truth is best kept not known. It's all about peoples happiness in the end.

Truth is one species of good, and not, as is usually supposed, a category distinct from good and coordinate with it. The truth is the name of whatever proves itself to be good in the way of belief. People are afraid of truth because they want to hide the bad things on them. It is really divulging the opposite which is goodness in truth. That's why normally people would not to be open of the truth for this will put them in trouble. Instead they continue their bad motives at their expense to continue their desires and pleasures capitalizing the bad intentions hidden with it. Learning its truth will be their downfall of their success. This is precisely why people are afraid of truth.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

People are afraid of HALF truths.
What may appear to one party as truth, to other is a lie.
Or at least a half truth.

It is the consequences of the truth people are afraid of, not truth itself.

The problem with truth is what is the truth. It's like what is a fact. They can both be just opinion.

When one knows the truth, the next step is to act on it, and that is very difficult.
