Insist that the rich are rich because they are better people than the poor:

ie they are more intelligent, more talented, work harder, etc

And the poor are poor because they are stupid, lazy, talentless, unmotivated etc.

Then how does that explain that pointless lazy wasters like Paris Hilton, and ignorant talentless racists like Jade Goody are rich, whilst people like Mother Theresa, who helped many many people, are poor?

I don't beleive this myself. I don't think that rich people are anywhere near better than the poor. I've met some rich people who are absolute lazy scumbags and only got their "success" through their connections. I've also known poor people who break their backs working hard, but through bad luck, lack of unique talent or just lack of opportunities, never made it out of the lowest living standards.

I am very much an advocate of the free market.

Generally speaking, success is bred by ability. There are billions of examples of this.Of course there are exceptions to the rule.
However, paris hilton and jade goody, however unpalatable, have used the power of the free market to their own advantage.quite simply the viewing public feels that they have something to offer.(i know ,it seems strange).
The free market is open to advantage to anyone who should seize the opportunity.Isnt this the beauty of it?

As for mother theresa, god bles,Im sure personal wealth was the least of her desires.

Being a supporter of capitalism doesnt mean that one beleives that it is righteous and the answer to all the worlds problems. Its simply means that we embrace nature in its purest form that is natural selection. The world will only progress if the finest sepcimens are permitted to achieve their potential.Unfortunately, the upshot is that there will be losers. Its not the utopia that many on the left would hope for,but as yet I have never heard of a viable alternative.

Mother Theresa was rich in so many ways.

Anyway, Yes thereare some people who I would say do not deserve to be "rich", but life isnt always fair. Not all poor people are really lazy, maybe just unmotivated. Anyone can succeed, some people were just never taught how. You cant punish those who do work hard just because a few didnt have to work hard.

So just because yyou have met some hard working poor people and some rich scum then we should all have everything taken away from us? I dont think rich people are "better people" than poor people, they just happened to either be born into it, had a brilliant idea or worked their way up the ladder. I am in the middle and I sure dont want to be like the wealthy, but i dont want ot be poor either, I have spent years trying to improve myself so i could be self-sufficient, it didnt happen overnight and I dont want thta taken away from me.

Free market proponents always talk this rubbish. How free the market is till things go wrong. Look at Northern Rock in Britain. They have had 24 BILLION from the Bank of England. In a truly free market capitalist system they would have gone to the wall. So free market capitalism does not exist, it is just an illusion.
