Realizing that it is going on is the first step. When you start to wake, remind yourself that it's ok and will pass.

You can also program your mind for certain dreams and other sleep activity. If you can remember to 'talk' yourself to sleep with the suggestion that you WON"T wake up afraid, then the thought will be very close should you wake up.

You can keep a sleep journal. Record you dreams and waking experience down as soon as you get up. (These memories tend to fade quickly).

Only thing is, it takes a lot of dicipline and practice upfront.

I had sleep paralysis for about ten years and then it just left on it's own.
The subconcious mind is awake allthough we are sleeping,i allso learned not to be afraid of it and had gotten used to it.
Now it does'nt happen anymore because i am either tired enough to sleep the night through or the TYloney PM's do the job just befor gong to sleep at night.

I know how you feel. I find that my sleep paralysis is always caused by stress. Make sure you think of only nice things and relax when you are going to sleep. I can control mine like that. However when i do have them, i still cannot wake myself up easily. I have learnt to shout wake me up using my throat which my husband usually hears and gives me a good elbow in the ribs, which works.

if you are awake enuff to think you're experiencing the paralysis, then you're in need of medical help.... the whole idea of the paralysis is to keep you from flopping out of bed (falling out of the tree) while dreaming..... once you reach a level of awake, the paralysis should be gone... I suggest a sleep center and a doctor................
