i took my lap top over to a friends house that uses verizon like i do but i could not get the connection to work. is there a generic wep key? when your at a hot spot is those connection open for anyone to use or do they need wep keys also? thanks

have your 'friend' supply the key to sign on to his net. when you use the wizard it will tell you if the net is a secure one and requires a wep key. if it requires a wep key and it is your friends net and your friend wants you to use it, he will have to provide the key,

if it is your friends net and he no longer has the key then you may have to reset the router/switcher WLAN device to factory settings and reset up all the security for it. not a problem really just takes a bit of time, refer to the manual for the model specific instructions for resetting the device(s).

if your friend doesn't know the wep key then just call up verizon tech support to help you configure your laptop to your friend's router.hot spots is an open connection...it doesn't need wep
