My family is making gifts this year. Any easy ideas? I already have a bunch of tedious ones. Thanks

How cool! I wish my family would make presents. Right now I'm the only one who does that. :)

Here's a bunch of quick-and-easy crafts:

-Bottlecap pushpins. Get some bottle caps (a favorite beer for adults, Orange crush soda for kids, etc), some E-6000 glue, and some thumbtacks that have a big "thumb" part (as opposed to the "tack" part). Fill the undersides of the caps with glue. Set the thumbtacks in, "thumb"-side into the glue. Let dry. Very cute.

-Record album calendar. Get a cool record album cover. Make a calendar on your computer (or get a cheap one from a bank or similar-- not the type with the pictures for each month, but just the days). Adhere the calendar to the bottom edge of the record cover. Add something to hang it with on the back (a piece of embroidery floss glued under 2 pennies is my favorite).

-Lip gloss. In a double boiler (or your microwave; I'd suggest the double boiler because it's easier to control the temp), melt down vaseline and a sliver of lipstick. Stir it around with a chopstick or similar item and pour it, carefully, into a container (I've used emptied-and-cleaned-out lipstick containers, pill boxes, and other misc. containers I had lying around. You can also buy small jars at craft stores and online). This is really fun if you go to the dollar store and stock up on different cheap lipsticks-- you can play around with the colors for cheap. Nice gift for kids.

-Another kid-friendly gift: Crazy crayons. Set up your double boiler again, and get a few cheap boxes of crayons and a soap or chocolate mold. (You can get really fun shapes with these. You can also just use a muffin tin, though then all the crayons will be shaped like flat-topped muffins.)
Take the wrappers off your crayons. You may also want to spray your mold with cooking spray; I don't remember if the crayons stuck when I made them. At any rate, melt down a bunch of one color crayon and pour it into the molds. Let it cool briefly, and do another color, and another, until you've filled the molds. Let them cool completely, and pop them out of the mold. Crazy crayons! (Make sure they're given to kids who know not to eat them.)

-Beaded bracelets are very simple but rewarding. Just pick up a selection of beads you love, some elastic string, and go to work. Make sure the beads have holes big enough to get the string through! (www.firemountaingems.com has the best beads at really nice prices, BTW.)

-Shrink plastic keychains or charms. Pick up a 10-pack of Frosted Ruff 'N' Ready shrink plastic at www.shrinkydinks.com. They're only $5, and you'll be able to make TONS of stuff from a single pack. Follow the instructions to make charms or keychains. You'll only need a sharpie-type marker, some colored pencils, a hole punch, a cookie sheet and an oven. You can trace pictures and shrink them down into very cute little charms. (I used to make and sell these-- many people are blown away when you tell them they're Shrinky-Dinks!)

I could go on and on and on; I'd suggest looking at www.craftster.org for ideas. They have whole threads about easy crafty presents. Good luck!

You could make soap for them. It doesn't take very long, and no matter how craft-challenged you are, it is easy to make! Go to your local craft store and just browse the aisles. I am sure that you will find many "sample" crafts that would be easy and inexpensive to do. Also, giving card sets (rubber stamped by you!) can be great for Christmas. Decorating anything with modgepodge and words and pictures out of a magazine can be fun, you can go far with that. Making earrings can be hard, I would make bracelets. Much easier.

Take smiley stickers and put them on bingo discs ( the one with the metal band around them ) drill a tiny hole in the disc and then put a tiny ring in the hole and hook it to a chain, for a necklace or you can make braclets the same way, with several discs on them. You can buy the chains etc at a craft store. Or make Indian head dresses out of safety pins and beads and feathers, Go on the internet and find the pattern, for the headdress

Easy gifts:
Put bath items in a pretty basket and cover with plastic wrap, tie with a big bow.
Or use fancy food items, like cheeses, crackers and salami.
If any one in your family is a crafter, make a gift pack of craft supplies.
Package of blank, easy greeting cards. Rubber stamped images that you don't have to color. Or if you don't stamp, colleges of colored papers and images and embellishments (like buttons or photos). Just cut, glue and you're done.

If you know anything about quilting, make small American Flags.

If you like to paint, pick up paintable Christmas figures or what ever is out there these days to paint for Christmas.

Personal Note Cards ... don't have to be Christmas theme, but will need envelopes.

If you're good at poetry ... do on parchment paper.

If you sew ... small pillows to hang of door knobs.
