i heard at one time they all added up to the same number for each game ..like low numbers for high seniority and high numbers for low seniority

The numbers work the same as players' numbers. They are there for identification purposes. I don't know if the numbers are handed out on a seniority basis, but that would be an interesting system.......

The low 1-teens are for QB 20-mid 40 Running back's WR are in the 80's or teens It just gives significance to the players position on the Team.
