ok, sorry, i put the rescue disc from my laptop into my pc, by mistake of course and didnt realize till the damage was done.
i cant reboot from the xp because my pc wont reboot from the disc. I can bring up the first screen by hitting del but not sure what to do then. I have changed my settings to reboot from disc. Thats when the msg about the ntldr comes up. I have downloaded the ntldr and copied to disc. When i try to use that the msg is system32\hal.dll. I am totally confused.
When i try to use the reboot thing i cant use the options as my keyboard doesnt respond.
gee now i sound like i have completely lost it. i believe i need an it person

You need to do what formatting (you should elaborate correctly what formatting you did to where) then transplant NTLDR from a good functioning XP computer.

NTLDR is NT boot LoaDeR because Windows XP is Windows NT-based, it needs it as start up.

sounds like you're gonna have to install a fresh copy of Windows XP, that appears like the only way you can fix it.
