I'd love to see Notre Dame join, to give their elitist fans a healthy dose of reality. But they will never give up the TV money as long as NBC offers it.
Pitt would be an excellent fit, as that would give Penn State a natural rival, instead of the manufactured one with Michigan State (Michigan State?????).
Iowa State would work as well. They are a very competent program, which would give a geographic split for an East and West Division. East-PSU, UM, MSU, OSU, Indiana, Purdue. West-Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, NW, Illinois.
Now, if only somebody could get Jim Delany to realize how much money a Conference Championship Game would generate.....

Pittsburg - there is already a natural rivalry with Penn State there.
West Virginia? I don't know. They are the dominant team in the Big East, why go to the much more competitive Big Ten?
Notre Dame - never. The Irish would not want to play a schedule that made them include Ohio State every year along with Michigan and Michigan State. Although after this year they might like not having to play Navy, Air Force and all those other schools they USED to beat up on.
Southern Illinois? Not nearly strong enough.
Maybe they should add Appalachian State - we know they can beat a Big Ten school

The Big Ten will add teams only if it will make it a stronger conference, that's why it won't add MAC schools. Notre Dame would be a strong possibility. I would love to see them add the Irish and get rid of a couple teams -- either Indiana and Minnesota or Indiana and Northwestern. The Hoosiers have to go. They do horribly against other Big Ten schools.

All of you are looking at the Big name schools.
Why not look at one of the teams in the MAC.
I mainly say this because Miami(OH), Bowling Green, Toledo, and even Ohio University are annual powerhouses in that conference.
West- Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan St., Indiana
East-Ohio St., Miami?, BG?, Toledo?, OU?, Penn St., Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue
This would keep the Biggest Rivalry.
Big Ten would actually get a bye and end the same weekend as the other conferences. (with a championship)

they could actual decide for Cincinnatti. they could be placed in a gap the place they could be placed in the obstacles of the great Ten and sort a achieveable opposition with Ohio State. And if Cincinnatti is severe approximately moving forward in soccer it is going to would desire to get out of the great East and play extra applicable opposition week in and week out (no offense Pitt). the great East has adequate communities the place it won't omit Cincinnatti too plenty (there is like 30 communities interior the basketball convention and lots for soccer). Notre Dame would would desire to share gross revenues from its extensive NBC deal if it joined a convention, and it has such extremely some rivalries that it would prefer to play 15 -20 game a 12 months to get all of them in with a convention schedule.

If it ever happens, they take either Iowa State from the Big XII or Pittsburgh from the Big East. They'll never take Notre Dame and Notre Dame doesn't want to join, unless NBC drops their contract (after a 2-10 or 3-9 season, they should).

notre dame doesn't wanna join cause they're rollin in tv cash.
pitt, wvu, cuse, lousiville don't wanna join cause they'll get annihilated in The Big Ten... remember the powerful psu?
ky, iowa st won't join cause they're in even conferences already.
i think Cincinnati (the bearcats just recently joined the big east anyhow) would be a good team to even out The Big Ten, and then they could have a north and a south division, with The Ohio State Buckeyes in permanent control of the south.

Notre Dame would fit right in but I would like to see someone like Boston College, Miami OH, or finally let Montana into D-1
