I suppose it depends on where in the world you are. In my part of the globe..we refer to it as gas...I understand (and correct me if I am wrong) that in England it is referred to as Petrol most.

I think it basically depends on where you are. If you are in the US and call it Petrol, people look at you like "HUH?" But if you are in the UK and say that you are going to go get gas, they will think you must be going to eat beans or something that will give you gas. So which is better or worse? Neither. It is just a matter of usage.

Petrol. Since the term "gas" does not refer to a liquid. Seems like a really stupid idea to refer to a liquid product as "gas"

I'm an American, and we say "gas." Definitely a habit. I never heard it referred to as "petrol" till I was an adult.

Petrol comes from petroleum, In the UK we use petrol and OMG if you put are equivalent of gas in a car it would explode !

Honestly I have to agree with the U.K. on this one, petrol makes more sense as it comes from petroleum. "Gas" is a non-solid, non-liquid state of matter.
