From the article:
---
Even Tennessee, the NCAA's top draw in women's basketball, knows it takes more than seven national titles to put fans in the stands, especially students.

"One of the things we have always heard from students is that they have so much going on. So I said, 'What can we do to entice you?"' said Jimmy Delaney, the Lady Vols' marketing director.

The promotion Delaney and coach Pat Summitt came up with? Free tuition.

can you think of other "incentives" to fill the seats at Lady Vol games?

Nude athletes would do the trick.

Trolly, what time-zone are you in? Must be past bed-time, no? (Says me who hasn't slept. Oh, the pain!)

I find it absolutely amazing that Tennessee is stating there is a problem with filling the seats when the lady Vols have a basketball game. As a fan of athletics, regardless of the gender, the lady Vols are one of the leading and most revered - and feared - programs in this country. It doesn't take very long after watching the lady Vols play to realize they are one of the most balanced teams and fundamentally prepared teams to step on the court. There is no "me against you" type of play or showboating. It is about the team first and execution of the game plan prepared by the coaching staff. I have no problem with any incentive to attract more fans, and especially free tuition. The level of competition they play is second to none as Tennessee always seems to play the more difficult schedule whereas men's programs around the country will pay a smaller and less talented school to play them merely to achieve a victory. I think in the world of athletics, there is something to be learned by watching the women's programs. You don't see the finger pointing, vehement scolding of the referees (or other players) by the athletes, or see players going into the stands to fight with the fans. If you have any doubts about the level of play, watch a game from beginning to end and then voice your opinion. You might be surprised at how exciting the game can be.

Female sports are like children sports... My dad had the incentive to watch me because, I am his son. Other than family and an ocassional friend, female sports have little concurrence.
On the other hand, here in Argentina, the national female Field Hockey team, Las leonas, would kick the male team, which doenst even have a name.
Oh, and the leonas (the lionesses) date the Pumas (National Male Rugby team) ;)

i think of that is greater of a cultural element. i comprehend numerous women folk who're activities nuts (soccer, particularly, as properly as basketball and baseball and a few hockey). on an analogous time, I come from a relatives the place no person is fascinated in activities - my dad, my husband, my brother in regulation, none have any interest in activities. all of them locate it fairly stupid, to be common. My husband's 0.5-sisters, on the different hand, are finished activities freaks, because of the fact their mom is (my mom in regulation isn't). people who're raised to love activities have an interest in activities. people who are not, are not.

How do you get more women interested in sports?

Put some class and intelligence into the events. Tall, sweaty men with fourth-grade educations grunting up and down a court makes me yawn.

Sports are for men. I couldn't think of a way to fill any seats to watch a bunch of women, acting like men, to play a MANS sport.```````
