It started when he testified at the Grand Jury trail investigating Balco and doping in baseball. Some one illegally leaked testimony from that trail, Bonds said he never knowingly took steroids. His girlfriend said that was a lie.
Then Raphael Palmiero became famous for pointing his finger at Congress and saying" I've never done steroids, period." But 2 weeks later he tested positive for steroids. That's when people took notice and said these guys are lying , we need an investigation.
P.S.
It actually started in 1998,when McGuire and Sosa were trying to break the single season home-run record.
Here's the important part, reporters were interviewing McGuire after a game in the locker room. They noticed he had a bottle of " Andro " in his locker. That's some kind of muscle builder.
Bonds became upset and jealous that those guys were getting all the attention, and said that McGuire is so big and hitting all those home-runs because he is using andro.
That's when Bonds decided to use steroids. I think he even suprised himself at how big and powerful he got and how many home-runs he was hitting.
The ironic thing is , he would of made the Hall of Fame if he would of finished his career and retired. He got greedy and it's going to cost him.

Ahh... the classic "Jack Johnson Syndrome" is rearing its ugly head in America again.
Why does it seem as if every time a Black man trumps a White man in a prominent area of achievement, that the American government finds a way to railroad and discredit him before he goes to the grave?
Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Jesse Owens, and now Barry Bonds (who broke McGwire's single-season HR record before Hank Aaron's career record.)
Only Hank Aaron (so far) has escaped the wrath of whitey (perhaps because his achievment took place during the height of the Cold War era, and his accomplisments have been truly lionized in American folklore). Who knows, maybe being #2 all-time (and having to spend your career in ATLANTA) was "hell-enough"
Woe be to the future Black Favre/Elway/Marino that has the AUDACITY to believe that he can be the equal of the white man and spends the days of his youth to prove it by means of accomplishment!
In the meantime, you whites can keep your little ball and bat! You have enough Negroes from Santo Domingo to at least LOOK like you haven't gone back to the days of Kennesaw Mountain Landis.
But your home-grown Africans will always know better...
besides... the DaMarcus Beasleys and the Eddie Johnsons are the FUTURE of the African-American athlete... the international game (soccer) SHALL become our #3 team sport of accomplishment... for slowly but surely, the Beckhams and Ronaldinhos, as well as some intelligent marketing by the MLS and US Soccer, will win young black kids over to including their sport within the "black pantheon of sport"...
...as the diamonds in the hood become more and more overgrown with weeds...

He lied under oath about the investigation of steriod use by baseball players, which Mr. Bonds is guilty of as well. Steriods, I believe, is a banned substance in the sport of baseball.

they've been investigating him since like 2002 trying to prove that he lied to the grand jury years ago about his involvement in steroids. they obviously have enough evidence now that they feel could convict him.
