At the end of the movie, the couple, with their sleeping child in the back of their vehicle, are discussing how they can "move on" following the affair of "Connie"- Diane Ladd's character. She had an affair on her husband, played by Richard Gere. Long story short, he had confronted the person she had the affair with, and murdered him. At the end of the movie, while discussing their future, they are @ a stoplight. As the screen enlarges, they are in front of the Police Station. I had interpreted that he did NOT turn himself in....My Friend thought he DID. What is your interpretation? What is the REAL ending? Do you know the answer? I've watched this several times, and still am uncertain as to the TRUE ending...Thanks in advance for your answers.

I know I saw the movie too and got lucky and found the VHS at a flea market. When I rented the DVD I saw the different endings too. The one when they were just sitting at the stop light near the police station. The other ending was that he kissed his wife and said to "kiss Charlie every night for me" and "we will be together again I promise. then got out of the car and went into the police station. I sort of thought that if he turned him self in and contacted his lawyer that there were really no witnesses except when he was carrying the "Body" out in the rug some guy said "do you need help"?? I know it was a good movie with both Richard Gere and Diane Lane. very talented actors. Glad I am not the only one who wondered too.

When I first saw that movie, it left chills on me... A simple flirt here, and there, or closeness shared in this manner, can lead a heart to be deceiving... One married, one single.... The single one knows no boundaries... The married one, at a cross road... Too weak to be strong... Infidelity is poison... I am sorry it happened to you... The reasons one cheats are endless.... In the end, it is far better to walk away from the marriage than to cheat... The beauty is God has set this out for us to be bonded as one when married... Marriage is work, but always worth the effort put into it... So many, see it like a new car... Or a new house etc... Just up grade when it gets too hard... Discard it with no faith in vows said... I was married to my hubby in the court of law... It cost a hundred dollars... I didn't have to spend thousands to make a statement... It is simple I adored him and still do.... Even when it gets tough, I still love him... That is what marriage is all about... So when it comes to friendships enter with caution as the heart can lead you wrong with out God leading the way... I am sorry this happened to you, may you find trueness in love... ♥ EDITED: Kindness and compassion is what you need... No reason to say thank you, my heart does so much go out to you... I know that pain well.... Although I was not married, or nor did I have children with this man I am refering to, he hurt me deep enough to scar me in ways I cannot even explain in words... You need to heal now, and why your kids have been out of your life, reach out to them now... It is never too late... ♥

I have the DVD and the alternate ending is included in the DVD. Turning himself in, is the alternate ending that was not used in the movie, therefore, he didn't turn himself in.

He didn't turn himself in, but they both have to live the rest of lives with the fact that he killed another human being and she is just as culpable, hence, their marriage will be a living hell.

I think that he did turn himself in because even when the green light went on they never went. That means that they had a chance to run but they didn't...
