I don't necessarily think that they are the best of each band, just the best selling and therefore reached a bigger audience.

Nirvan's Nevermind, I hate Green Day.

Wow, that is a damn well thought out question. And I would have to say Nevermind for sure. Nirvana was a revolutionary band becuase they became popular with such an amount of rediculous competition. Metal was just beginning to fly in its career and rap and other punk was beginning to appear. It was simple music that had a huge huge huge message. American Idiot was just an attempt at bashing to government. Green Day's career when downhill as far as authenticity after that. They're oldschool stuff is way more influential then American Idiot. However pretty much everything Nirvana ever did was influential. I hope my answer satisfies your needs. Good luck.

"Nevermind" is more interesting, and I barely like Nirvana. Green Day's American Idiot is terrible.

As for importance and influence, it's obviously Nevermind. First of all, American Idiot was released in 2004, meaning it's only been out for three years. Few albums have the ability to do anything in three years. Nevermind has been out for sixteen years. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" became the most influential song of the 90's and one of the most influential of all time, and it's impact is still felt today.

Nevermind.

I like American Idiot... {I like their later stuff much more than their earlier.} I don't think it's nearly as influential as Nevermind was. It does seem to have set the paces for much of punk's wave 3 {4?} sound though.

An over-produced mangling of influences verses an adolescent's take on politics. For better or worse, Nevermind is undeniably the more influential of the two (although much less than people believe; post-grunge borrows primarily from Pearl Jam's early sound), but they're each the worst album of their respective band.

Nirvana only had one previous album out with Sub Pop, they weren't exactly huge at the point of making Nevermind..

Green Day were already and knew this sort of stuff would sell records.

Nirvana forever.

Nevermind easily. Without Nevermind, there would be no American Idiot.

Nevermind-Nirvana. American idiot was just a facsimile of a sham. Nevermind wasn't trying for an outright statement.

Do you know how many grunge, post-grunge, "alternative" bands sprung up after Nirvana's Nevermind? LOL.....

Nevermind hands down!

prob nirvana. I don't like the way greenday sounds these days, I think they lost their edge. American idiot is too poppy sounding.
