Did we ever have them? we are born with clean slates. What is etched on them is culturally and environmentally determined. Family and religion also play a part. as to our "fine" human qualities- the opposable thumb remains as does our ability to reason. do we use those abilities- i think not.

HELL NO!
A Human Being like all other things is a constant growth. Our adaptive capabilities however do allow for some rather uncormfortable realities of human nature but we are beasts like all other land mammals. Our finer qualities have always been equall to our disgusting qualities however media has taken Hollywood's example of life in the fifties and broadcasts most of what sucks today. A complete flip flop of a proper ettiquete driven lifestyle.

Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man.

There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.

More details of these Ages are available in the
Yuga concept of the Hindus. The present age
is known as Kali Yuga (age of darkness).

qualities.

Well, I don't know how anyone could "loose" a "fine" quality.

I am assuming that you meant to ask "Are we losing our finer qualities of being human."

I guess if someone can't properly ask a question, yes. Yes we are.

We are losing all structures that allow us to have meaning, all universals and axioms are being relativised. But physiologically, thats going to take a while. Yet I get ya. It seems that people would rather care more about a stupid half dead poodle than the American homeless.

Yes you can say that. However, if you look back into history you will see that people always had bad qualities that inflicted pain on the undeserving.

Well, first of all you have to define what makes us "human beings". That's a whole topic by itself and I'm afraid I don't have the answer.
