"Emo" really just means emotional. But the term "Emo" is really a lifestyle, and music genre that exists apart from just being emotional.

Often times the term is used to label people who are more openly emotional with their dealings in everyday life.

Emo type people will spend their time expressing their emotions in artistic and external ways, often writing lyrics, or poetry filled with pain and suffering.
"Emo" can also be a style of dress as well. While many outwardly emotional people express themselves in forms of dress, hairstyles that cover their faces, and clothes that express a bland non-exclusive style. There are plenty of people that can relate to Emo music, or an Emo lifestyle without existing in the box of the total package.
