i see it as the same problem as with all govts

or at least force the rich to pay their lessers enough money to survive

By increasing the rich to the richest position, you may be aware that the world's richest person belongs to India. By the by what is the criteria to adopt and to decide " to what extent poverty is to the poor ". Because the policy of the govt. in this regard is such that they think that Ambani's also will come under the category of Poverty so policies/opportunities are created , thereby reducing the poverty at that level also.

There are no policies of Government to reduce poverty in India so now the Government wants to reduce the number of poor people in India. So it has decided to go on a killing spree, if not poverty it can reduce the numbers of poor in India. It is quite a reasonable policy and the only workable one available to the G.O.I.

1) first one is as u mentioned, NREGS which would provide 100 days of work to the villagers involved in traditional works such as farming to gain additional / alternate income.
2) The MHRD is giving highest priority to provide education to the rural children atleast upto primary level. The scheme name i dont remember.
3) Min. support prices of vital crops such as cotton, paddy, and wheat should be increased inorder to prevent our poor farmers from committing suicides (how sad). This is under Govt's consideration from a very long time but alas no action has yet been taken. There was a raise of Rs:500/- for the min. support price of wheat recently.
4) there was a proposal (proposed by PM) to give impetus to the micro-credit schemes in our villages to benefit the farmers and rural populace. This will be framed in the tows of micro-credit scheme successfully implemented in Bangladesh by Grameen Bank there. The basic principle of micro-credit scheme is to give credits for the rural populace as the name suggests but at a very low interest rate. The credit would be used for alternate employments and the income thus generated would remove poverty and hence violence. (as can be seen in Naxal affected states).
These are from my limited knowledge.
Regards

the reason people are starving in india is ,once again, religion. I used to send money to feed starving kids there, the sick truth is that out of all the thousands of tons of rice, and grain we send there, over 60% of all those tons gets eaten or ruined by RATS, ....rats that they will not kill because they are sacred in their religion. rats run everywhere there, their temples, social gatherings, EVERYWHERE. that is why 100% fact people are starving in india. oh yeah! i forgot, there is one small group of people there who have the brains enough to say "screw this " not only are we going to kill rats, we are going to eat them too! its amazing how great of hunters they are of these rodents, they sling rocks at them with some kind of strap with amazing accuraccy.,and can tell where they are underground. any culture who worships a rat is destined to starve, they eat everything.
