I am living in Hyderabad from the past 2 years and 6 months. My marriage was solemnised in Delhi 2 years ago. Can I obtain marriage certificate in Hyderabad? My marriage is not yet registered. Note that both my husband and I are native of Delhi.

Generally marriage is being registered in the district/state where it is being solemnized, but since the rule enacted under the Hindu Marriage Act,1955 by different states in India provides for the details regarding registration of Hindu Marriages under section 8 of the Act, for example in Haryana state the marriages solemnized in the Haryana State/district can only be registered in that very district of Haryana & any out station marriage is not being allowed for registration under this Act/rule by the latest notification of the Haryana government. But what does the rules’ regarding in Hindu Marriages provide for Andhra Pradesh has to be seen; also any state government notification regarding this factor has also been checked. The very fact you got married in Delhi & are having permanent address of Delhi as a proof of residence in the form of ration card, it will be better for you to get the marriage registered in Delhi itself. What are the formalities in this regard for registration in Delhi are quite simple & can be more beneficial for this work as the witnesses for such marriage you won't get in Hyderabad, which you require for this registration. Depends on the laws of the state you are planning on getting married in. In the Great State of New York immigration status is not an issue when applying for a marriage license/getting married. Have no idea how things are in other states but will be very surprised if there are restrictions anywhere. Hope this helps.

I think it should be in Delhi.Generally where the marriage takes place, the priest need to sign it along with your parents. I guess priest or a local family will be the witness. Judge will not sign it unless he sees the documents. He might ask for the invitation card etc. Hope that is a lil help.

Under the Special Marriage Act 1954, you can get registered your marriage at the place of your present residence.and obtain its certificate from the Marriage Registrar, for your marriage already performed in any form, at any place and at any time.
