Do not leave your hand down, keep the finger up, from time to time use ice (but not directly on your skin) on your finger (to keep it cooler), use antiinflamatory drugs. If it is too swollen and red and painful it might be an infection. Talk to a plastic surgeon.

The swelling will go down, but it will take a little time. The pain will become less and less too. It takes the body a little time to heal itself. Just watch out for any numbness/tingling. If you experience numbness/tingling then see a doc without delay. Go back to the ER if you have to. The important thing is that you don't delay.

Get better soon.

Well you did the right thing going to the ER. Poor you doing that, must have been painful, very painful.

The swelling and everything will go in time. It will feel numb for a while. I wouldn't worry at this stage, wait patiently and in a few days it should feel better.

Good Luck

Did they give you a finger splint? I slammed my finger in a door once and shattered the tip. I wore one of those splint things for a while because I was constantly hitting it with everything. The swelling goes down, take some ibuprofen according to the directions on the bottle and avoid bumping it.

Give the swelling a couple of weeks to settle. You are lucky it is just the tip of the finger. It should heal in 4-6 weeks.
