here in the Philippines, we hang Christmas lights, and lanterns outside our homes.. children sings Christmas carols, visit our ninong and ninang (godmother) to ask for gifts.. and sometimes countdown to christmas is done.. on Christmas eve, we serve foods (called noche buena), people attend the church (called simbang gabi) usually at 4 in the morning 16 days before Christmas, Filipinos believe that we should have attended the 'simbang gabi' regularly and should attend the 'misa de gallo' the final mass.. because what we've been wishing for will come true..

In Russia, it is mostly a religious holiday. New Years is a lot bigger deal than Christmas. Children walk around the new year tree and sing songs and play games together. There are 2 New year charachters - Father Frost and his Granddaughter Snegurochka. They usually lead the activities. Children recieve a lot of candies and sweet stuff. Adults do crazy things, stay up all night, eat huge dinner, play in the snow, slide down the snow slopes, make tons of noise, and so on. Russian Christmas falls on January, 7th. Those who wish to go church go to church. After that, the next day, the family gets together for a holiday dinner. Pretty much like everywhere else for every other holiday.
You just made me want to go home for New years.

Here in Australia ( as everyone know it's bloody hot here ) we usually spend Christmas with family and friends, we either have a big b.b.q or spend it at the beach. We open the gifts when everyone is awake and had breakfast then let the kids play. after a while the b.b.q starts around 12 or 1 in the afternoon and it goes till dinner time. oh yeah we drink too.New years some say it's bigger and they party more. lol

I always get up first and have a coffee and wait for the rest of the family to wake up. Then the kids come running out to see what santa bought them, we always open the presants first then have 'our' traditional breakfast of croissonts.

Then we got to mums to exchange presants with the rest of the family, and cousins.
We always have roast pork with all the traditional trimmings of Christmas with pudding.

The we visit any other relos in the in afternoon.

I am in Australia.
