"Ashamed" is a really harsh word. Many times other people tell you that "you should be ashamed of yourself." Coming from someone like a parent can have life-long lasting effects.

If you take into account the source, and what it is that you are supposed to be "ashamed" of, it's easier to acknowledge a mistake you've made. It's also easier to know when you are doing something that other people find makes them uncomfortable.

When people are faced with something they disapprove of, or just don't like, they tend to push it off it onto others. What ever you've done has been deemed, "shameful."

Now you must examine that and see if it's really worth worrying about or if you can let it go and get on with life.

no. but hiding your real identity is not always a matter of shame.

Some people have done that because they are trying to be sneaky and get away with something < like maybe a guy pretending to be a girl online to talk to other girls; OR vice versa> Or to talk to someone who hates them to get some 'gossip'. i know a few that have done that. It's creepy.
Some people have done it out of caution. Maybe in trying to protect themselves or others; IDK. Personally myself, i only go on a first name basis with very few people, but never tell them where i live [other than the States] as well, i have had serious stalker issues before where people have crossed major boundaries, so i am a little sensitive to that, and i don't offer up information to people i don't know. ♥

*though i do know what it's like to hate yourself because of what untrue statements others have said about you.

Then again, it's not like you have to use your real name to sign up for a Y!A account. A person could be anybody they wanted to really; you know what i mean? ♥

I'm.....perplexed. Why are you letting what others say influence you so? In the end, does it really matter what "They" say? No,it doesn't. It's your life and you've got to live it how you see fit. I'm on a bowling team, golf with some buddies and try to wear your basic golf shirt/Dockers combo when I go out. I've been carrying the purse for so long nobody even cares about that anymore. I look at the LGBT community as a family. And as we all know, every family has those members who you wish were less "Crazy" than they normally are. I look at those leather wearing guys like straight people look at the goofy uncle who wears those stupid flannel hunting caps with the ear flaps. Drag queens? That's the straight version of Aunt Gertie, right down to the drawn on eyebrows and gravelly voice from smoking all those unfiltered Lucky Strikes back in the day. So just think of yourself as the "normal" one in this disfunctional family.

No thank goodness I've never been so ashamed of myself that I felt I had to hide my identity.

Yes, I did. It's both guilt and shame, and I'm having a difficult time coming to terms with what I did.

I'm terribly ashamed of myself.

I've even pretended to be a boy so that people would like me.
