I think if you are asking this question you are not ready. Really you can't put an age on it. In my opinion sex is something to be saved until marriage for it is the most beautiful thing that a woman and man can experience together. However if this is not your view then it should really be made sure that you are ready to handle whatever fallout there is both emotionally and physically. Know that even protection isn't 100%

I don't think there is a universal age for everyone. I see age as merely a number, as I have met many thirty year olds who are more immature than myself. I think the correct time to start having protected sex is simply when you feel you are ready, and NOT when your partner feels ready. Too many of my friends have had sex when they didn't feel entirely ready and they only did it because they were afraid of losing the love of their significant other.

It varies among individuals and sex. Realistically in the American society, I'd wait until college at the minimum. This is not because the body is not physically ready, but in the majority of the cases people juast haven't developed the emotional maturity before (or well after) then.

Since no protection is full proof, I would say when two people feel they could have a life-long connection as parents of the same child. I don't think that's the same age in everyone.
