One school of psychology states that there are four goals to children's misbehavior, and that these can carry into adulthood if not satisfied in childhood. They are, in the order they tend to appear, Attention, Power (which we all need in normal amounts), and Revenge or Withdrawal (the latter two depend on the child's personality and/or degree of agression tendency). Most adults who hurt children have themselves been victims of abuse, so they have not had their normal power needs met during childhood, and their resulting goal of revenge may have been thwarted. So, to sum up, these adults are at the least seeking power, and children are the easiest targets for realizing success.

The real threat to children is people who lurk in chat rooms and Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channels who hope to lure your child into having online sex or a face-to-face meeting.

FBI suggests, in its Parent’s Guide to the Internet, read their child’s e-mail.

If it were simple, you wouldn’t hear repeated stories of FBI raids collaring dozens of pedophiles who swap files — and hunt for children — online.

There wouldn’t be thousands of cases of Internet-related child luring tracked by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

1 in 5 children wouldn't be telling the Justice Department that they'd received an unwanted sexual advance in surveys.

It’s impossible to say how many pedophiles there are lurking on the Net.

If you doubt the severity of the problem, log on to almost any IRC channel.

You’re unlikely to last 60 seconds without being propositioned.

Filtering software like NetNanny, for example, can be set to prevent children from even typing personal information such as their name, address and phone number.

From what I know, it mainly stems out from a bad experience or situation the person themselves had when they were a child. They seem to reminisce and have flashbacks to that situation. It may cause them to do things like that. Because they were so scared to tell someone what happened, but they'd rather let someone else feel the same way they did.

People who hurt children often were raised in cultures of violence and without an accurate idea of child development. They may assume that the child "knows better" or "is trying to make me angry" when the child is just being a child. Then they punish in ways they have been punished--with violence. It brings temporary control, power. That's one theory, at least.

Cause they are children themselves. They are immature and think that its okay to hurt their children cause they feel no pity, just like when a child hits another child. Do they understand that it's not right? No they will not learn those skills until their older and obviously , these "adults" have not either.
Or they are mentally ill.

People who are losing or who have lost contact with their own inner childlike qualities, and who for one distorted motive or another seek to harm children.

"When Invisible Children Sing," Dr. Huang, "Babies Remember BIrth," David Chamberlain, Ph.D., "Life before Life," Jim Tucker, M.D., and "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, are great stories about children.

Because when kid's are born, SOME parent's don't care for them and teach them how they need to be raised. They just let them do whatever, and then that's what they learned as a kid and they grow up that way..

I said "Some" so people don't get offended!

Their brains were put in backwards and upside down. There's no excuse for hurting children. None.
