Emotionally. With physical pain you or a doctor can find the reason but with emotional pain that is often impossible to do. Why would someone be cruel, how could god let a loved one die, why did they stop loving you, why can't you get ahead at work? These emotional pains cannot be detected to an infection or broken bone.

Always the emotional pain is the worst! I can go way back to the times when I was a small child & remember the mental injustice of the things my dad said! The beatings and other abuse have been resolved in my mind* The name calling has stayed to define how I think of me* I will say I am still working on improving my self esteem & it is a long road with lots of detours & potholes* With a loving God on my side someday I will see the light!

Emotional,
"Sticks and stones may break our bones, but names will break our spirit"
- The misfit [book]
So you see physically pain will in fact leave but emotional would stay in you mind.
