There's all different kinds.
Some are good for eating, others are better in pies.

All the jap brands are reliable. I would recommend basing your choice on where the closest shop to buy parts from is.
Honda = most reliable, most expensive
Yamaha / Suzuki = both close second, perfectly good bikes
Kawasaki = Less reliable, cheaper

I'm partial to the Suzuki SV650 but I have to admit that Ducati makes a good bike once you figure out where you stand on the gears. I still have yet to get to 6th around here.

They all are best, for some owners. It all depends on what you want in a bike. Nobody makes lousy bikes anymore. Some are just more suitable than others for us individually.
