Why do you think that we have to pay for public transportation?

That is what people wanted. Other wise, low life would fill the buses up. And the ones with money would have to pay for a taxi. :)

One way or the other we will have to pay for it. It is subsidized with our taxes but if the riders payed nothing then we all would be paying more.

so there would actually be bus drivers/cab drivers. why would anyone do that for free?
