Money, we love to eat and their food is fantastic. We pay, they get rich and we are all happy......
I have noticed they do tend to actually talk to the customers and call them by name and make you feel welcome so we become part of there extended family sorta..... then if we're happy they are happy.......

The sociographics are changing. The new generations are looking into education and the professions rather than daddy's diner. The Greek diners and tavernas are now being bought up by Albanians. It is a noticable trend in the USA.

Well, when the first Greek person came over here and started a restaurant, he did quite well. When more Greeks came over here, they didn't know what to do. They saw the first Greek man being successful at his food business and they decided to do that too.
They really know how to make delicious food.
It's what I like to call a 'Win Win' situation for all concerned.

It makes them feel good because after working in that diner all day, they walk out to their super expensive Lexus, and alfa's and mustang convertibles and BMW's... and go home to their $400,000 homes... The diners have WONDERFUL FOOD and usually a great atmosphere and I've always found the owners to be very friendly and personable... so they DESERVE their expensive toys.... they work VERY HARD in those diners to make them the successes that they are...

It's true that when Greeks first came to America as immigrants, cooking would be one of the things they could do best, because Greek food is delicious. So they started restaurants. But isn't it the same for immigrants of other nationalities? Didn't Italians open restaurants? Don't Chinese and Indians open their own cuisine restaurants?

Greeks really love to see people enjoying food and are proud of their dishes - made with fresh ingredients (rare nowadays in other restaurants). Eating and cooking is a joy for most Greeks - if you eat out in a group in Greece - the topic of converstion is FOOD - where you can get better food than the place you are eating at. If they're not eating food - they are talking food.

Aren't samosas Indian? Do you mean tiropitakia? cheese pies?

When you've lived 20 yrs in Greece and cook Greek food daily - eat Greek food outside (we go out to eat at least 3 times a week in summer) You end up gagging for Chinese / Mexican / Indian .... I've even been known to yearn for Shepherd's pie (UK) .... anything to break up the everyday tastes - you see you can have too much of a good thing.
