hello,

there are some signals which you can say you "might" have a virus in your pc but there are also viruses which do not show some signs. My personal way of checking is :

1. if my antivirus software, avast, says so.
2. if my hard disk space gets consumed slowly without me doing anything.
3. if my pc is becoming slow.
4. if i get very weird messages when running applications.
5. when advanced windows cares (a free downloadable software and works great) says so.
6. When my computer hangs or restarts indefinitely all the time when it used to be stable.

but my personal advice would be to install an antivirus. Viral signatures are so complex nowadays, you dont even see their effects but they exist. Antivirus softwares take great stride in studying these signatures and in finding solutions.

Take care and hope this helps,

Random popups, browser failure, disappearing items, websites being redirected and an overall decrease in computer performance usually point to viruses.
