The 4-3 generally generates better pass rush without blitzing, and it gives you the freedom to play with speed rushers on the edge. The 3-4 generally is very player specific, you need a lot of size from your NT and not many players can play the position. It requires blitz packages to pressure the QB, usually from your OLB, who has to also be larger than average because the LBs will have to take on a Guard in general that would have been on a DLinemen in the 4-3 scheme. There are different types of each scheme however. The most popular are one gap and two gap schemes. I haven't played for years so I don't actually remember exactly, but iirc the one gap 3-4 is pretty similar to the 4-3 in general because it's more of a penetrating defense like the 4-3 is. Two gap 3-4 your front 3 generally just eat up blockers, unless you have Kris Jenkins who eats them (that guy is a beast). Honestly though it isn't really the base as much as it is the players and the coaches running it. You can have them both run about the same, and most teams with use both in the same game. I'm a big fan of the 46 myself actually.

Generally 4-3 works better against the inside stuff, including passes, such as crossing routes, because generally you put more emphasis on your linebackers as well as more trust in them.
It works well with slower wide receivers and run heavy offenses because your extra lineman will help cover the gaps a little better, although you do need an exceptional line backer.
3-4 is more of an outside speed defense. It works better against teams who like to run Leads, Sweeps Jets and Tosses. Generally teams who have a fast running back, and not a power one.
4-3 and 3-4 really don't determine the skill ability of your lineman or linebackers. I've seen 3-4 D's with crappy line men and 4'3 D's with amazing linemen. It's all enphasis on what your team likes to run.

Pretty much. 4-3 defenses put an extra big body on the line to stop the run, put pressure on the QB.
3-4 defenses tend to be faster but you have to have an EXCELLENT noseguard on the D-line and physical linebackers like Merriman (as opposed to slightly smaller, speedier LBs like Vilma or Patrick Willis).

Yes...More defenders on the D Line to stop the run...More defenders on the outside (defensive backfield) to defend the pass...Uh...4-3 wouldn't cover deep passes...such as out of a 3 or 4 receiver set...

well if you named who ur players are
If i had a group of guys and i needed to start a game RIGHT NOW it wood b 4-3 because if ur defense isnt prepared u need an almost even amount but a slight edge to DL because they make big plays
not tht linebackers dont, its just tht DL control tempo of the game

I think 3-4 is more better because you more players to drop back.

kind of, but alot also depends on personel. if you have an all american DT, you are not going to let him ride the pine while you play an extra LB in the 3 4.
