Since I currently do not know that there is a "love of my life," I'll have to stick with that. It's easy to lose what you haven't got!
Same as...better to be born blind than become blind....i think...

So far I don't have a love of my life yet, but if I did I'd rather go blind.
If I really loved them, and they really loved me, then they would be there for me, and I would be there for them if our roles were reversed.

if you go blind, you can't see the love of you life FOREVER (then you can't work, you don't have money, the love of your life would leave you anyway)
if you lose the love of your life, you might find another one and you need your eyes to see the person

I'd give my life for Michelle. Going blind for her wouldn't even constitute a second thought.

Go blind. I would be able to make it as long as I had my love.

I would have to go blind. The love of my life would be far more important to me. I need love more than I even need my eyesight. That's the way people are made.

I would never want to go blind so I'd pick the second one.
