This is actually an answer to a resolved question. Nobody had the right answer. The British do not have a one day holiday. They have a Church Festival where people bring food to celebrate and thank God for the harvest. In Canada, we still do the same thing - used to be that you had to wrap the food in white tissue paper, but now you can bring it unwrapped. Also, in Canada, we do have a one day holiday but it is in October, so it is our rendition of celebrating the harvest - a throw-back from our English ancestors that we have made our own.

Yes it is Harvest festival in Britain, that I miss from growing up British and it's not a one day Festival.
It does seem hard here that for each Holiday including Thanksgiving , there is a huge build up, then just one day of Holiday/Celebration and feasting, then back to work, and everyone encouraged to go shopping at midnight and it is on to marketing the next Holiday.

Do British Celebrate Thanksgiving

Harvest festival is kidna similar, although its not really a nationally celebrated holiday. Its just a thing i remember from school where everyone had to bring a can to give to the homeless kitchen and then we all sat in church and listened to a few boring hymns.

There is no such thing as 'Thanksgiving' as a holiday or the whole 'Holiday' period. Its just Guy Fawkes Night, Christmas then New Year etc...

There is a limited American Thanksgiving celebrated in England. Sometimes U S tourists wandering around will be invited to Brits' homes for Thanksgiving fare.
The U S tourists are flabbergasted at this gesture, but it is a big joke to the Brits after the "yanks" leave. They are really celebrating having gotten rid of the people who became Americans 230 + years ago.
